Special Workshop – This Special Workshop introduces participants to Modern based Dunham technique along with the rich dance traditions of the Caribbean diaspora. It will also show the techniques can amplify the narrative and aesthetics of African Diasporic performance practice.

Special Workshop – Dunham Technique is a vibrant African American dance form that engages the body, mind and spirit! Created by dance pioneer Katherine Dunham, the technique is informed by the traditional dances of the African Diaspora, as well as by modern and ballet.
Special Workshop – This contemporary Dunham repertory class will focus on using Dunham technique in contemporary modern dance choreography.
Special Workshop – Intermediate beginning/intermediate Dunham Technique class focused on Katherine Dunham’s original choreography.
Lecture – This lecture discusses the life of Katherine Dunham – her fusion of anthropology and dance; her need to create Dunham Technique; her work as an educator; and her efforts as a humanitarian.

Cumbe Café – ‘Mind, Body & Spirit through Dance’ is a Black dance documentary film that shines light on my experience as an MFA student teaching the first West African dance course offered at the University of Michigan while taking Dunham technique with Madam Penny Godboldo fall semester 2019.
