Katherine Dunham is an African American and Diasporic treasure. With her company of dancers she made her mark on the Broadway stage, Hollywood films, concert dance and club revues bringing the magic and magnetism of African Dance to the masses touring over 50 countries and 6 continents.

The inextinguishable spirit of people and their culture are communicated through dance through her immersive studies in the Caribbean and Africa. Katherine Dunham created her technique based on the fundamentals of African Diasporic dance. Cumbe’s Founding Artistic Director, Pat Hall proclaims Dunham Technique is, “The Ballet of Black Dance.”
