Engaging Cultural Arts Programming for Students of All Ages
Our dance and drum performances, workshops, and residencies are led by dynamic performers and teaching artists with expertise in the cultures of Africa and places it influenced (such as the Caribbean, South America, and United States). On stage, in the classroom, or in the community, we are dedicated to sharing and celebrating the unique contributions of African-rooted cultures and their connections with other cultures.
Performances
Ignite your students’ imagination with thrilling and authentic experiences. Our artists share historical, social and cultural contexts of dances and music, highlighting universal lessons, power and joy from the Diaspora
Workshops
Teach students a new culture and form of expression via movement and music. Students learn dance/music fundamentals, terminology, songs and histories of the people and places from which the dances come.
Performance Workshops
Combine the thrill of a performance with an interactive workshop. Cumbe artists start with a dynamic performance to build excitement then engage students with a presentation and dance class.
Residencies & Series
Delve deeper into a culture through a series of workshops. We work with teachers to connect with curriculum themes and create lessons for life. Students learn discipline, leadership and more.
“Our summer camp teachers were really happy and pleased with all the sessions we had with Cumbe. The instructors were knowledgeable in what they were teaching and did a great job engaging our preschoolers in their activities.” – Omar Roberts of Brooklyn Friends School
