Join our drum circle where we’ll explore colorful rhythms from around the globe. The circle begins with a warm up that will teach you a specific rhythmic pattern. We’ll continue playing that pattern to connect with each other and to find the freedom to express ourselves. Rhythm becomes the language we use to communicate and as we continue to play, we develop a vocabulary. When that vocabulary develops, that’s when the fun begins! Our drum circle is a safe, non-competitive space where you can let yourself go, discover your own rhythm, embrace your groove and get in sync with the good energy of others. Come practice and have lots of fun!
Participants are encouraged to use instruments, play pots and pans or practice on your lap
Také was born and raised in Japan where she started learning and performing traditional Japanese dance at the age of 4. She was introduced to African dance in 1994 and eventually traveled to Guinea, West Africa, with renowned dancer and teacher Youssouf Koumbassa to study dance and drum culture. Také has taught West African dance workshops as a guest artist for The Sound Movement Connection Perceptual Development Program at Boricua College. She currently teaches and choreographs African Diaspora dance and drums, creative movement, children's yoga, dance and percussion for different ages and diverse populations.
Také is the Director of Global Pulse, a multi-cultural dance, drum and spoken word performance group aiming to promote social justice and world peace by bridging cultural divides. Také has performed with numerous well-known artists from West Africa, South America, the Caribbean, Europe, Asia and the U.S. Her performance credits include UNIFAM Fundraiser Gala honoring Nicole Kidman, United Nations sponsored HIV InterFaith Prayer Service and Austin Dance Academy’s annual performance in Las Vegas. She was a member of L.A., Sewe Guineé (directed by Mouminatou Camara) and Simply Skins-Daughters of the Drum as a dancer and drummer. Také has worked as assistant choreographer for Kazwa, Afro-Brazilian Group and as guest choreographer for Grace Drum Performance Workshop. Také has also worked extensively with Drum Café Co. and Michael Sanders in his one-man show "Never Run to the Bus in Winter."
