Beginning Sabar with Darnetha Lincoln M’Baye

  • Cumbe: Center for African and Diaspora Dance 1368 Fulton Street Brooklyn United States (map)

Special Workshop Series
Hybrid (Join In-Person or Online)
$15-20

Often performed at celebrations, Sabar is an upbeat dance filled with energetic and fun movements. During this unique dance class, you will learn the basic technique and footwork of Sabar. From there, incorporate these steps into a distinct choreography that’ll have you popping your lapa (no worries, it’s just a skirt) across the dance floor.

Bring your lapa and get ready to dance!

Darnetha had formal dance training in modern and jazz before focusing on African dance in graduate school, where she performed with African Caribbean Dance Theater. She went on to work with Mamadou Dahoue and The Ancestral Messengers (Ivory Coast), Bousso Dance Company (Senegal), Aminata Gueye Dance Company (Senegal), and the well-known ensemble, Sing Sing Rhythms (Senegal). In 2009, Darnetha founded Roots In Revolution, an all-female contemporary dance company whose work blends modern and folkloric movement and concepts.
