In this fusion-based workshop, we will explore Afro’Dance and its evolution. We will begin our exploration with West African culture, understanding the rhythms and body movements of Ivorian, Ghanaian and Nigerian dances. We’ll get in touch with South African roots as well. Our goal is to establish a strong foundation to express yourself within these movements. We will combine what we learn and perform it in a fusion style choreography that explores all the flavors of these countries.
Awa is a self-motivated dancer, choreographer and creative director. Dancing since the age of four, she has been teaching Afro’Dance in New York City for four years now. She's also choreographed for various artists throughout the country. Although her specialty is Afro’Dance, she's trained in Jazz and Contemporary dance, Hip-Hop and Dancehall, making her a versatile dancer who loves to incorporate a variety of styles into her routines. Her classes are meant to push people to their full potential and connect them to their roots by educating them about the dance culture.
