Programs Coordinator

Cumbe is a home for African and Diaspora dance and music. Through classes and cultural programs, we invite everyone to immerse themselves in the joy and vitality of rhythms from Africa, the Caribbean and the Americas. Cumbe champions African and Diaspora culture as a vibrant legacy for people of African descent and as an exuberant source of power, spirit and knowledge for all.

The Programs Coordinator is responsible for developing and managing Cumbe’s community engagements and cultural programming. As part of the programs team, the Programs Coordinator ensures Cumbe’s mission, vision and core values are reflected in each program.

Reports to the Programs Director.

Core Responsibilities

  • Community Engagements

  • Execute, in collaboration with management and program teams, strategic direction and goals for community engagements - relationships in which Cumbe provides classes, residencies, performances and related cultural programming to schools, senior centers, arts & community organizations, individuals and corporations.

  • Manage implementation of community engagements. Collaborate with the Programs Director on the delivery of community engagements, including structuring the engagements, negotiating with clients, engaging teaching artists and artists, ensuring high quality of service that adheres to the Cumbe brand, following up on engagements, and cultivating long-term client relationships.

  • Oversee arts in education program, including:

    • Communication with the schools regarding educational progress and outcomes

    • Documentation of teaching practice, including curriculum and lesson plans

    • Represent Cumbe amongst multiple school community stakeholders, including classroom teachers, parents, administration, and donors

    • Provision of professional development support for artists in schools

  • Maintain and develop, as necessary, systems and procedures to execute, track and evaluate community engagements.

  • Collaborate with Communications Director on designing marketing campaigns for community engagements.

  • Track and evaluate community engagement activity. Provide monthly reports on community engagements activity to the management team.

  • Develop and maintain a budget for community engagements to support annual operating budget planning and tracking.

  • Support the Executive Director with fundraising proposals and grant reporting data and narrative details for community engagements.

Cultural Programs

Develop, in collaboration with the Programs Director, lectures, conversations, events and other cultural offerings for Cumbe communities, including adults, seniors and families.

General Programs

  • Assist the programs team with other responsibilities, as necessary

  • Participate in general programs planning and evaluation activities

Qualifications

  • Strong project management and organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously

  • Successful track record developing relationships with individuals and organizations and arts programming

  • Knowledge of traditional and contemporary African and Diaspora dance and culture

  • Commitment to racial justice

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills

  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Google Docs

  • Creativity, enthusiasm and a sense of humor

  • Experience working collaboratively

  • Availability to represent Cumbe at evening and weekend events

Compensation

This is a part-time role for 25 hours/week. Compensation will be the range of $23,000 to $25,000 per year for a 25-hour week, depending on experience and qualifications. Benefits include paid personal time off, the ability to work remotely much of the time, schedule flexibility, and discounts on Cumbe dance classes.
